Charter Schools
Charter schools are public schools and do not charge tuition. They contract with a branch of the State government or with a school district to provide an education service. They are paid by the State or district agency for each of their attending students.
Created to provide additional academic choices for parents and students, charter schools have also been established to provide a learning environment that will improve pupil achievement.
Every charter school has its own unique vision and mission. This should be apparent in every aspect of the school in the teachers and administrators involved with the school. You and your child should also share this vision.
Bennett Academy's mission is to prepare students for advanced classes and for citizenship responsibilities. We hold high standards for behavior, appearance, and treatment of others. Our curriculum is based on the Core Knowledge Sequence and the Arizona State Standards. High expectations are placed on students and staff.
Bennett students learn how to learn. As well, the staff is comprised of adults who place high priority on their own ongoing education. We are a "good school for good kids."
Each charter school develops its own policies. Student discipline, attendance, academic performance, and grading policies vary from school to school.
Each charter school subscribes to its own chosen teaching philosophy. This philosophy should enhance the school's stated mission, educational goals, and help shape its curriculum.
To meet their educational goals charter schools apply both traditional and innovative teaching methods. Unique instruction programs are developed by each charter school. Class size and make up, how classrooms are organized, what teaching strategies are applied, and what classroom materials are used are unique to each charter school.
Charter schools participate in the Arizona's nationally standardized norm-referenced achievement tests and AIMS testing. They also design methods to measure student progress.
Bennett Academy is a college prepatory school and as such employs teaching methods which not only merit successful standardized testing and AIMS testing, but which build foundational skills needed for higher education. Grading methods compatible with colleges and universities that requires graded transcripts are also part of Bennett Academy's standards.

Pericles, who lived from 495 to 429 BC, was for 40 years the head of the Athenian administration of public affairs. He is renowned for many things, including championing democracy and for his prolific influence on Athenian architecture - he started the project that built much of the Acropolis, including the Parthenon. In large part because of his promotion of the arts and literature Athens enjoyed a long held reputation as an educational and cultural center.
